BUJUMBURA, Burundi (AP) - Burundi's former president and vice president were acquitted Monday of charges they plotted to overthrow the government in a coup, a court spokesman said.
The country's high court found no evidence to support the charges against former President Domitien Ndayizeye, former Vice President Alphonse Kadege and three other defendants, said Elie Ntungwanayo, the court's spokesman.
"My feeling is that of great satisfaction. This shows justice has worked free from government's pressure," Ndayizeye told The Associated Press by cell phone from jail.
