NORFOLK ISLAND, Australia (AP) - A New Zealand man pleaded innocent Thursday to the first homicide in 150 years on Australia's remote Norfolk Island, home to some descendants of mutineers from the British ship Bounty.
Glenn McNeill, 29, a former chef on the island, was formally charged in Norfolk Island Supreme Court with the March 31, 2002, murder of 28-year-old Janelle Patterson.
Chief Justice Mark Weinberg closed the court to hear legal arguments and to begin selecting a 12-person jury from the South Pacific island's 1,600 inhabitants.
