TOKYO (AP) - A Japanese food company recalled nearly 5 million cans of tuna Friday after a customer found part of a box cutter blade in a can, a company official said.
The small piece of blade was found in a can of tuna produced in Vietnam in February 2006 and imported to Japan by a third company for sale by Nichiro Corp., spokesman Kazuaki Nishimoto said.
Tokyo-based Nichiro began a voluntary recall Friday of about 4.8 million cans of tuna produced by the Vietnamese company, Highland Dragon, starting in April 2005, Nishimoto said. It was not immediately clear whether any of the cans had been exported from Japan.
