PITTSBURGH (AP) - A former nursing home administrator was sentenced Monday to nearly four years in prison in the death of an Alzheimer's patient who wandered outside in 40-degree weather.
Martha Bell, 60, and the home's parent company, the Alzheimer's Disease Alliance of Western Pennsylvania, were convicted Thursday of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and other offenses in the October 2001 death of Mabel Taylor, 88. The company was fined $25,000 Monday.
A coroner ruled that exposure likely contributed to Taylor's death at the now-shuttered Ronald Reagan Atrium I Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Robinson Township.
