LIMA, Peru (AP) - President Alan Garcia said Friday that he is selling the presidential airplane in an effort to curb "frivolous" expenses in his administration.
Garcia, who promised a more austere government when he took office last July, has blasted former President Alejandro Toledo for spending lavishly while failing to help Peru's poor.
"That plane cost $25 million, which has led to many expenses," Garcia said during a visit to the port city Trujillo, 300 miles northwest of the capital of Lima.
