Saturday, February 17, 2007 9:22:25 PM

VENICE, La. (AP) - A barge holding about 17,000 gallons of crude oil burst into flames Saturday, leaving one person burned and another missing.

The missing person, a welder, was working when the explosion occurred, said Lt. Jeanita Jefferson of the Coast Guard's command center. The second man was taken to a hospital by helicopter and treated for second-degree burns, the Coast Guard said.

The barge was moored with a crane barge, which caught fire and was destroyed. It took 4 1/2 hours to put out the fire on the tank barge, Jefferson said.
