Kidnapped Colombian former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt is seen during her captivity in this image taken from TV Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, file photo. Ingrid Betancourt has been held hostage by the leftist rebels Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, for the past 5 years. The video tape was broadcast on Noticias Uno in Colombia Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003. (AP Photo/APTN/Noticias Uno)BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) - Five years after she was kidnapped by leftist rebels while campaigning for the presidency, anti-corruption crusader Ingrid Betancourt remains Colombia's best-known hostage.

As her family marks the anniversary of her abduction Friday, they complain that President Alvaro Uribe is endangering Betancourt's life by advocating military rescue efforts rather than negotiation.

The family's pleas for a negotiated prisoner swap are strongly backed by France, where Betancourt has become a cause celebre because of her dual French-Colombian nationality.
