YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - A small group of protesters carrying placards and chanting slogans staged a rare demonstration Thursday in downtown Yangon, demanding lower prices on consumer goods and improved health care and education.
Myanmar's state-run media warned Friday that the protest had violated the law and could result in a crackdown against the demonstrators. The New Light of Myanmar newspaper said the protest, which was held near a major marketplace, had stirred panic among vendors, shoppers and passers-by and was "totally against the law."
"Action might be taken against the group," the newspaper reported.
