Japanese Stocks Climb; Dollar Down

Japanese stocks soared to nearly a seven-year high on positive economic data Thursday, a day after the central bank raised a key interest rate. (AP Photo/Junji Kurokawa)TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks rose Friday for a second straight session, led by real estate and shipping stocks, as the market's main index stayed near its seven year high.

The Nikkei Stock Average of 225 issues added 79.63 points, or 0.44 percent, to finish at 18,188.42 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange — the Nikkei's highest close since May 8, 2000. The index rose 1.09 percent the previous day.

The broader Topix, which includes all shares on the exchange's first section, rose 12.06 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,814.96 points. It was the Topix's highest close since Nov. 14, 1991. On Thursday, the index rose 0.88 percent.
