HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - An official who promoted himself as the "marrying mayor" broke the law by accepting tens of thousands of dollars for performing weddings, a state ethics panel said in a ruling released Friday.
The state Ethics Commission ordered Mayor Robert Green of tiny Jefferson to repay $25,683 his net income from conducting the ceremonies over five years.
Green known for going anywhere in Pennsylvania on a moment's notice to perform marriages in venues that have included a truck bed, a Ferris wheel and a junkyard performed more than 1,000 ceremonies and collected more than $60,000 in donations during the tax years 2001 through 2005, the ruling said.
