(AP Photo/Schalk van Zuydam,File)DAKAR, Senegal (AP) - President Abdoulaye Wade received 56 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff and easily win re-election in this West African nation, officials said Thursday.

The 80-year-old Wade defeated 14 other candidates by winning 1.9 million out of 3.4 million cast Sunday, said Cheikh Tidiane Diakhate of the country's national election commission.

The count still must be confirmed by the Supreme Court to become official, perhaps as early as Friday.
