Wiggins Lifts Stanford Into Pac-10 Semis

Stanford's Candice Wiggins, left, and Melanie Murphy celebrate as they jump ahead of Arizona during the second half of a quarterfinals game in the Pac-10 college basketball tournament in San Jose, Calif., Saturday, March 3, 2007. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Candice Wiggins deemed herself healthy, forgot about her tender hamstring and let adrenaline carry her.

Stanford's star guard made an impressive return to the lineup, scoring 16 points with four 3-pointers to lead the seventh-ranked Cardinal past Arizona 65-55 Saturday night and into the Pac-10 tournament semifinals.

The slow pace of the game was perfect for Wiggins, who missed the final two conference games with a hurt left hamstring and five total games with injuries. Coach Tara VanDerveer opted to start the two-time Pac-10 player of the year and monitor her closely — because having her full strength for the NCAA tournament is what matters most.
