PITTSBURGH (AP) - Martin Brodeur picked an ideal time to reach another milestone. Brodeur overcame a mediocre performance in regulation to stop all three shots in the shootout and win his 40th game this season with a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.
"Every time you win 40 games or get to these certain plateaus, they're pretty special," Brodeur said. "There's not many guys that are able to say that."
Brodeur extended his own NHL record by reaching 40 wins for the sixth time in his career no other NHL goaltender has more than three. The three-time Stanley Cup champion is also on pace to eclipse the career-best 43 games he has won on three separate occasions, including last season.
