BAMAKO, Mali (AP) - The simple wooden coffins lay facing Mecca on the airport tarmac in Mali's capital.
The men in the extended family bowed their heads in prayer, then embraced the grieving father, a cab driver who returned to his homeland to bury the wife and four children he lost in one of New York City's worst fires.
"God is great. God is great," the men exclaimed Saturday, some with tears running down their faces. The women in the family waited inside the airport, reciting verses from the Quran.
