CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) - A military officer accused of beating Iraqi detainees will be court-martialed on two assault charges, the Marine Corps said Monday.
Prosecutors say 2nd Lt. Nathan P. Phan beat, choked and threatened two men last March or April in the town of Hamdania as he was trying to extract information from them. Phan's attorney said his client would plead not guilty.
Prosecutors allege Phan hit Hasan Hamza Fayall and Ali Haraj Rbash and choked them with enough force to kill them.
