WASHINGTON (AP) - Campaign committees for the two major parties continued to carry debt from the expensive 2006 congressional contests, according to their latest financial disclosure reports.
Some committees showed fundraising prowess in February despite heavy competition for donations from 2008 presidential candidates. Others reported smaller receipts compared to the same period two years ago.
As typically happens, Republicans outraised Democrats. The three Democratic committees together raised $11.6 million; the three Republican committees gathered in $13.3 million, according to February reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
