MONAHANS, Texas (AP) - A grand jury on Wednesday began investigating allegations of rampant sexual abuse of inmates by staff members at a juvenile prison.
Texas Ranger Capt. Barry Caver, whose office spearheaded a two-year-old investigation that has grown into a statewide scandal, said grand jurors in Ward County were being asked to issue subpoenas in the case surrounding the West Texas State School in Pyote.
No indictments were issued Wednesday, said Ward County District Clerk Patricia Oyerbides. The grand jury adjourned at the end of the business day and will reconvene April 10.
