COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A Bengal tiger that once worked on the carnival circuit was recovering after surgery to correct a badly deformed right front leg.
Malnutrition as a cub had caused Sulley the tiger's bones to grow misshapen, surgeon Jimi Cook said. It was increasingly hard for the animal's front legs to support his body, which brought on joint malformations, arthritis and pain.
On Wednesday, three veterinary surgeons at the University of Missouri-Columbia spent six hours cutting and reorienting the leg bones in hopes of letting Sulley walk without limping.
