PECOS, Texas (AP) - A prosecutor who for nearly two years did nothing about a report alleging sexual abuse at a juvenile prison has disputed claims that his office has failed to prosecute other felony cases during that time.
In a written statement to the Pecos Enterprise newspaper, Randall W. Reynolds who oversees prosecutions in three West Texas counties said about half the cases his office handled in 2005 and 2006 resulted in plea bargains.
An Associated Press analysis showed that Reynolds did not prosecute about 90 percent of cases filed in Ward County and 83 percent of cases filed in Reeves County. In Loving County, the state's least populous, only one felony case was filed.
