KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) - Maoist demonstrators displayed the bodies of 25 slain activists in open trucks Friday to protest their killings in Nepal's restive south. Thousands demonstrated on the streets of the capital Katmandu two days after a fierce battle between the former communist rebels and supporters of an ethnic rights organization left 28 dead and more than 30 wounded in the town of Gaur, about 100 miles south of Katmandu.
The two groups clashed over which had the right to hold a rally on a piece of land. Most of those killed died from knife wounds or beatings, though some were shot.
The demonstrators drove the 25 bodies around in trucks as angry protesters shouted "Hang the culprits!" and "We will take revenge!" and waved red party flags.
