GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba (AP) - Australian detainee David Hicks was considering a plea deal ahead of his arraignment Monday on a war-crime charge at Guantanamo Bay, where his lawyers say he has lost hope of a fair trial during his five-year imprisonment.
The 31-year-old former kangaroo skinner, the first terror suspect to face prosecution under revised military tribunals, has grown long hair to protect his eyes from the light bulbs inside his prison cell and appeared anxious ahead of the hearing, said Australian attorney David McLeod, who met with his client Sunday.
"All of the options obviously have to be discussed, from not guilty and tough it out, through to 'How do I get out of here at the earliest opportunity,'" McLeod told reporters.
