TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) - Armed protesters clashed with police in western Honduras on Monday, shooting an officer before they were dispersed with tear gas and rubber bullets, authorities said.
The group of about 700 demonstrators blocked a road to demand the government build more schools, health clinics and provide other services in the area. The protest took place about 150 miles west of the Honduran capital.
Police tried to remove the protesters but they fought the police with sticks and stones, and fired with pistols and assault rifles, said Filiberto Martinez, police commander in Santa Barabara province.
