ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) - Ivory Coast's main rebel leader will become prime minister in a new government called for in the country's latest peace plan, rebels and mediators said Tuesday.
Alain Lobognon, spokesman for the New Forces rebels, said rebel leader Guillaume Soro has been offered and accepted the post of prime minister in a new administration being organized by President Laurent Gbagbo.
He spoke by phone from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, where Gbagbo and Soro signed the deal on March 4 to end years of unrest and reunite the West African nation.
