SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A proposal to allow cattle grazing on some Eastern Washington wildlife habitat has an environmental group threatening a lawsuit. Western Watersheds Project, based in Hailey, Idaho, this week filed a required notice that it intended to sue the state Department of Fish and Wildlife in 60 days over the proposal to allow cattle grazing on some of its lands.
"This thing stinks to high heaven," said Bob Tuck of Selah, who is leading opposition to the proposal. "This has been kept very quiet, and most of the public isn't even aware it is taking place."
Madonna Luers, a spokeswoman for Fish and Wildlife, said the agency has not seen the intent to sue, so could not comment.
