Saturday, April 21, 2007 10:45:09 PM

MEXICO CITY (AP) - A Durango state police commander was kidnapped and killed Saturday and two other officers were shot dead in a gun battle with his abductors, state authorities said.

Durango state commander Sergio Munoz was leaving his house in Durango City early Saturday on his way to police headquarters when at least 10 gunmen in two sport utility vehicles kidnapped him, said Ruben Lopez, a spokesman for Durango state investigators.

Alerted to the abduction, police set up a roadblock in the town of Canatlan, about 56 miles to the north.
