WASHINGTON (AP) - The largest private university in the country failed Monday to win Supreme Court review of a lawsuit against the institution over student recruitment.
The University of Phoenix wanted to reverse a decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of two former school counselors who say their pay was based on the number of students they enrolled. The appeals court refused the for-profit university's request to dismiss the case.
Because of abuses brought to light in the 1990s, the Higher Education Act requires that schools promise not to base pay on securing enrollment or financial aid.
