SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - The U.S. military filed charges Tuesday including murder against a Canadian Guantanamo detainee who was a teenager when he was captured in Afghanistan and sent to the remote prison in 2002.
Omar Khadr, now 20, allegedly threw a grenade that killed a U.S. Special Forces soldier while fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan, and allegedly planted mines targeted at American convoys.
He was charged with murder, providing support to terrorism, attempted murder, conspiracy and spying under rules for military trials adopted last year and first used this year to try the Australian detainee David Hicks.
