 SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A man suspected of firing shots at an unoccupied nightclub shot at two police officers Tuesday, killing one, then died when officers returned fire, officials said.
The officers were responding to reports of shots being fired at Club Landing, which is open only on Fridays and Saturdays, and a nearby billboard early Tuesday, said St. Joseph County prosecutor Michael Dvorak.
When they arrived, they learned the gunman had gone to a nearby motel where he lived. They had been talking with him outside his door for several seconds when he began firing, striking both officers, Dvorak said.
