LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - When Nigeria's electoral commissioner took to airwaves last weekend, he told voters there would be rare sunny skies for their balloting. Hours later, the rain began to fall.
Nigeria, it seems, never fails to disappoint when it comes to democracy.
Saturday's presidential vote was a landslide won by government candidate, Umaru Yar'Adua, according to a government count. The result has been denounced by the opposition and neutral election observers as a sham, not the benchmark for democratic growth that people had wanted.
