KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A roadside bomb killed seven Afghan soldiers in a military convoy Wednesday, the latest in a string of deadly attacks underlining the vulnerability of Afghan forces taking a more prominent role in battling resurgent Taliban guerrillas.
The soldiers were traveling in a 10-vehicle convoy in the Wazekha area of eastern Paktika province, near the border with Pakistan, said army Gen. Murad Ali. A blast destroyed their vehicle and an eighth soldier was wounded.
Unlike NATO and U.S. troops, Afghan forces have few armored vehicles to protect them from roadside bombs and suicide attacks. At least 24 Afghan security forces have been killed this week in militant attacks.
