BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Republican gubernatorial candidate switched parties Thursday, adding a Democrat to race that some of the party's biggest names have decided to skip.
State Sen. Walter Boasso had previously announced he was running for governor but had long complained that the state Republican Party gave all its support to U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal for the fall election.
Boasso said the switch was a practical move: Without support from Republicans, he decided that his government reform ideas will get more attention if he runs as a Democrat.
