ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) - Nigeria's main opposition party said Thursday it will not recognize or cooperate with any government formed as a result of last weekend's presidential election, which was won by the party of outgoing President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, chairman of the All Nigeria People's Party and running-mate of Muhammadu Buhari who came in a distant second in April 21 vote said the party will challenge the victory of the People's Democratic Party in the courts and seek a new vote.
Umaru Yar'Adua, governor of the mainly Muslim northern state of Katsina, was declared winner of the presidential election with 26.6 million votes, or more than 70 percent. Buhari received 6.6 million votes.
