PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) - International judges pledged Monday to push ahead with the much-delayed Khmer Rouge genocide tribunal following the reduction of fees for foreign lawyers wishing to participate in the process.
The Cambodian Bar Association originally demanded legal fees of a combined $2,700 but Saturday agreed to lower them to $500. The initial sum included a $500 membership application fee, an additional $2,000 fee once a case was assigned and a $200 monthly fee.
The international judges had said the fees would severely limit defendants' and witnesses' choice of attorneys.
