ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Orlando Sentinel will cut about 24 jobs in its newsroom during the next four to six weeks, Senior Vice President and Editor Charlotte Hall said in a memo Tuesday.
The announcement comes just eight days after the Sentinel's owner, Tribune Co., disclosed plans to reduce the staffs of its two largest dailies, the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, by as many as a combined 250 jobs.
"We will offer a voluntary separation program in some areas. I hope that the voluntary program, along with a handful of open positions, will allow us to keep involuntary terminations to a minimum," Hall said in the statement, which was e-mailed to staff and posted on an industry Web site.
