SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) - The fatal plunge of a circus performer during a show packed with children is under investigation by the state's workplace safety division, officials said Tuesday.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is looking into whether the Circo Hermanos Vazquez provided sufficient safety mechanisms to the performer who fell headfirst Monday from drapery suspending him from the big top 40 feet above ground, said agency spokesman Dean Fryer.
Authorities have ruled Roberto Valenzuela's death an accident, said Los Angeles County police Lt. Michael Mosca.
