INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A small plane carrying Gov. Mitch Daniels made an emergency landing in Gary because the aircraft's door opened shortly after takeoff, but the problem was quickly corrected and the governor was never in danger, a spokeswoman said.
Daniels was traveling from Gary to Terre Haute Tuesday when the co-pilot's door somehow became unlatched and opened, said Daniels spokeswoman Jane Jankowski.
The plane, which was only a few hundred feet in the air, made a U-turn back to the Gary/Chicago Airport as the co-pilot tried to shut the door. The plane landed, the door was closed completely and latched, and the plane took off again, Jankowski said. No one was hurt.
