NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - A man rounded up in a raid of immigrants working at a factory was apparently deported by mistake after federal officials got him mixed up with another detainee with the same name.
Federal authorities said Wednesday they accidentally deported the wrong J.S. Castro to Guatemala last month.
Juan Sam-Castro had been held at a federal detention center in El Paso, Texas, since shortly after the March 6 raid at the Michael Bianco leather factory. On April 25, he was deported to Guatemala, although he was among a group of detainees temporarily protected against deportation by an order from a federal judge in Boston.
