NEW YORK (AP) - A federal judge tossed out a lawsuit Wednesday against an Israeli cabinet member for a July 2002 Israeli Air Force bombing that killed 15 people in an apartment building in Gaza City.
U.S. District Judge William H. Pauley III said in a written decision that he "cannot ignore the potential impact of this litigation on the Middle East's delicate diplomacy."
He said the State Department argued for dismissal based in part on foreign policy concerns, and the Israeli government said former Shin Bet director Avi Dichter deserved immunity because he was acting as a government official.
