SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Notre Dame's Mike Brey, the Big East coach of the year, signed a two-year contract extension Thursday to remain with the Irish through the 2012-13 season.
Notre Dame was 24-8 last season after going 16-14 the previous year. The Irish went 11-5 in the Big East to match the school record for conference victories, and their 23 regular-season wins were the most since 1985-86.
"Mike is a highly gifted and talented leader, who has a great sense of what it takes to be extremely competitive within the Big East Conference, as well as nationally," Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said.
