BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A state trooper pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor in the fatal shooting of a disabled man mistaken for a fugitive.
Trooper Larry Norman pleaded to misdemeanor negligent homicide in the death of Joseph Erin Hamley, who had cerebral palsy. He faces up to a year in jail and a fine of $1,000.
On March 7, 2006, police mistook Hamley for Adam Lee Leadford, an escapee from Michigan. Hamley ignored commands to keep his hands out of his pockets, something his mother described as a nervous habit.
