LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A discouraged Todd Pletcher walked away from Churchill Downs a five-time loser Saturday, his Kentucky Derby streak ballooning to 0-for-19.
"I wish I could tell you guys I'm going to go home and cry," the trainer said, "but I'm not."
Maybe he ought to. Or maybe he should take time to figure out why many of his horses fade time and again in the Derby stretch. The nation's leading trainer may have two second-place finishes in his six Derby tries, but he now has four last-place finishes.
