LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Street Sense had a much easier time making it to the Kentucky Derby winner's circle than his owner.
While the dark bay colt dashed to the finish line at Churchill Downs on Saturday, Jim Tafel had to duck under a rail, got jostled in the concourse and even had his hat knocked off. Tafel and his trainer, Carl Nafzger, finally celebrated the Derby victory they were denied eight years ago and it was all thanks to Street Sense.
"Carl said, 'Jim, we're going to win the Kentucky Derby,'" Tafel said. "Partner, you made it come true."
