Militants Bomb 3 Pipelines in Nigeria

Tuesday, May 08, 2007 8:40:47 PM
By KATHARINE HOURELD

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - Militants staged coordinated attacks on three pipelines Tuesday, inflicting the worst damage on Nigeria's vital oil infrastructure in more than a year and signaling an escalation in hostilities that caused world petroleum prices to spike.

Hours after the near simultaneous bombings, gunmen stormed a vessel carrying the workers in the southern Niger Delta and abducted four foreigner workers, two separate private industry officials told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with company policy.

No other details of the midnight attack were available, including the nationalities of the kidnap victims.
