GREENSBURG, Kan. (AP) - The cleanup and recovery stopped briefly Thursday as the first funeral procession for one of the nine residents killed during a massive tornado made its way to a cemetery.
National Guard members took off their hard hats and waited until the procession, lead with a hearse carrying Beverly Lynn Volz, passed before they resumed work.
Earlier, more than 100 people attended Volz' funeral at United Methodist Church in neighboring Mullinville. The funeral had to be held there because all the churches in Greensburg were destroyed.
