DALLAS (AP) - Voters have winnowed down a crowded 11-candidate race to become the next Dallas mayor to two candidates, and both began campaigning in earnest Sunday.
Former construction company CEO Tom Leppert received 27 percent of the votes and councilman Ed Oakley got 21 percent, according to final but unofficial results. Since neither received a majority, they will go head-to-head in a June 16 runoff.
The winner will replace Laura Miller as mayor of the nation's ninth-largest city.
