WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Association of Manufacturers will pay $150,000 to one of its lobbyists when he leaves to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the association said Wednesday.
The agreement to pay the money to Michael Baroody was reached in January 2006, long before there were any discussions about nominating him for the consumer post, the association and the Bush administration said.
Baroody's nomination is with the Senate Commerce Committee, and a hearing is scheduled for May 24 before the subcommittee on consumer affairs, insurance and automotive safety.
