JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - Passengers on South Africa's luxury Blue Train were left without heat when it ran out of diesel as freezing temperatures gripped the country, local media reported Wednesday.
The famous train, which has hosted kings and presidents, ran out of diesel while traveling through the Karoo, a large semi-desert area in the interior of South Africa on Monday night as the mercury dropped with the onset of the year's coldest weather.
Millions of South Africa's poor living in homemade shacks tried to keep warm this week, and 22 people have died, mostly due to exposure or fire-related incidents.
