LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A racially split Little Rock School Board fired its superintendent Thursday while pledging to pay him the more than $400,000 remaining on his contract.
The dispute has drawn attention to a city that became a symbol of the national struggle over school desegregation 50 years ago.
On Thursday the board voted 4-3 to buy out Roy Brooks' pact, with the four black members voting to fire the superintendent and the three white members voting to keep him. Brooks is black.
