CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Defense Department plans to shoot 3,200 kangaroos on the outskirts of Australia's capital have been derailed by police fears about the risk posed to humans, an official said Friday.
The department applied this month for local government approval to kill the kangaroos about 6,500 of which have overrun two Defense Department properties near Canberra.
But Canberra's administration, the Australian Capital Territory government, announced Friday the request had been refused for now because of concerns from police.
