LONDON (AP) - David Beckham may return to England's national team to boost its chances of qualifying for the 2008 European Championship. The former England captain could be selected Saturday by coach Steve McClaren to play Brazil in an exhibition at Wembley next Friday and a Euro qualifier at Estonia five days later.
The 32-year-old midfielder, set to join Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, last played for England in its quarterfinal loss to Portugal at the World Cup last July 1. He tearfully stepped down as England captain the day after the defeat.
"There has been a lot of speculation about him, but everyone will find out on Saturday morning if he's in the squad," McClaren said. "I go around, keep my eye on everybody and David's form has been monitored. The door has never been closed."
